BOARD SHORTS: June 8, 2018

Here are the highlights from the June 8 meeting of the CSU board of directors.

The board selected a new president through secret ballot and Anna Rempel is the CSU president 2018-2019. Joey Sidhu was selected to be the Alliance of BC Students Representative and Anna Rempel as the alternate. Vanessa Lewis was selected to sit on the Director of Continuing Studies & Executive Education Search Committee and acting Dean of Arts and Sciences search committees

The board has been discussing the smoke-free campus policy and will continue the discussion to next board meeting.

Here are the highlights from the May 25 meeting of the CSU board of directors.

The board approved revisions of the employment contract between the Executive Director and the Capilano Students’ Union and to open nominations for two representatives on the Acting Dean of Fine and Applied Arts Search Committee.

The board also approved planning tools for social events that will involve students.

Here are the highlights from the May 4 meeting of the CSU board of directors.

The board approved in principle a collective agreement with the CSU’s staff, represented by Canadian Union of Public Employees, local 1004.They also released $4,740 for up to six delegates and the CSU’s vice-president external and accessibility justice coordinator to attend the Alliance of BC Students skills and training conference. The board also decided to send four delegates to a Canadian Society and Executives (CSAE) MLA Networking event in Victoria. Finally, the also opted to send the CSU’s incoming vice-president finance and services and one board member to the Studentcare stakeholder meeting.

Here are the highlights from the February 23 meeting of the CSU board of directors.

The board passed several important motions at the meeting including the recommendation of Capilano Courier Referendum question to be added to the Spring 2018 referendum to the board and to direct the Executive Director  to cause an audit to be performed on Capilano University policies, practices, and physical facilities, in consultation with the Queer Students Liaison, in support of trans, two-spirit, and gender non-conforming people.

The board also passed a motion to make changes with how the Social Justice Committee will be composed. The changes include: all inclusive liaisons and the vice president of equity and sustainability will be part of that committee instead of having 2 members at large and 2 members from the board.

Questions raised about the Yes! Campaign, Consent campaign, Semi-annual general meeting, BOG/Senate nominations and Board self-evaluation.
