BOARD SHORTS: April 7, 2017

Here are the highlights from the April 7 meeting of the CSU board of directors. The board agreed to have Feras Bingursain (incoming international students liaison), Abbey Doucet (incoming faculty of fine and applied arts representative), Camila Stankevicius (incoming faculty of business and professional studies representative), and Sofia Avelino (incoming faculty of fine and applied arts representative) take office in their elected positions starting immediately. The aforementioned board positions are currently vacant, and this will ensure that the CSU has a full and active board of directors for the remainder of the 2016-2017 term of office.

Marissa LeSire was also appointed to fill the duties and responsibilities of the VP of university relations & services for the remainder of the 2016-2017 term of office.

The following policies were approved by the board: the health and safety policy (HR-01); the labour relations policy (LR-02); the violence-free workplace policy (HR-02); the harassment-free workplace policy (HR-03); and the ethical purchasing policy. The board agreed to pursue a referendum question for the introduction of a potential IT repair service, which could allow students to have a resource to utilize on-site in the event of a tech related emergency.

Funds were released to send board members to the second annual We Speak! Fundraising Gala hosted by the Squamish Nation on April 8. The board also approved the contracts of the the three DJs performing the night of the third annual Rock the Boat: McBeathers, Giuliano Rascan, and Juelz.

Two students were elected to sit on the student life committee as students-at-large. The board directed that the club and events fee, the intramurals and recreation fee, and the external advocacy fee shall be assessed to all student society members, irrespective of campus status beginning at the start of the 2017-2018 academic year.
