Here are the highlights from the August 25th CSU board of directors meeting.
The CSU attended the Canadian Alliance of Student Association’s (CASA) Policy and Strategy 2017 Conference and was unanimously accepted into the organization. Priorities and themes for CASA this year will include health and wellness, Indigenous students, international students, financial barriers, and educational materials. The location for the annual general meeting was determined. A budget, an audit overview, and a presentation from the Quebec Student Union took place as well.
Student senate representatives Megan Fretz and Hassan Merali was appointed to the campaigns and advocacy committee by secret ballot.
The board approved an equity strategy as presented. The goal of the document was to provide the CSU with an action plan for fighting for social justice on behalf of students.
A special committee was struck for student-at-large nominations, to find suitable candidates to sit on CSU’s various committees. Three members of the board — Japaridze, Cousin, and Safari — were appointed to committee positions.
The board approved the release of $700 for the purchase of a CSU- branded prize wheel to be used during Captivate and future events. After a concern was raised regarding which budget the funds are released from, the need for a budget line item was discussed. It was suggested that a motion be written and submitted to the executive to make this actionable.
