Here are the highlights from the March 24 meeting of the CSU board of directors. Plans for the newest addition to the #adulting series: Self Defense were approved. Though arrangements are still being made, the Capilano Students’ Union will be bringing in a facilitator from Wenlido WEST to teach basic self-defense to any students interested. There will be two sessions held, one during universal lunch hour and one during the evening, as to make the workshop more accessible to students with varying availabilities. Keep an eye out for more details to be provided on the CSU Facebook page, as there are limited spots available for both sessions.
Plans were also approved for the Sexual Violence and Misconduct Information Workshop, to be held on April 4 from 11:30am to 1pm in the CSU Maple Lounge. An external facilitator will be brought in to lead a discussion in response to Capilano University’s newly developed policies and procedures on addressing sexual violence and misconduct. The discussion will aim to provide students context for discussing sexual violence and rape culture, an understanding on how to interpret policy and procedures, an opportunity for engaged feedback, and more.
Nominations were opened for an vice-president of university relations & services (acting) position. The nomination period will run for 10 business days and the position will be appointed at the next meeting of the board, and are open to current board members, director-elects, and committee members-at-large.
In response to an ongoing discussion on the possibility of bringing CUBES (Capilano Undergraduate Business Enterprise of Students) under the umbrella of the CSU, the board created a special committee to negotiate a relationship between the CSU and CUBES, to consist of an undecided number of representatives from each of the organizations.
