CSU COMMITTEES

External Relations Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The external relations committee is responsible for providing direction to the vice-president of external relations with regards to liaising with outside organizations as well as CSU members. This includes campaigns regarding the post-secondary education system, communication, and collaboration with other student organizations, coordination of the external marketing and communication of the CSU, the development of issues-based policies, and communication and collaboration with members on campus regarding post-secondary education issues.
POSITION: student-at-large (2)
COMPENSATION: $25 per meeting
COMMITMENT: Committee appointment takes place September 23 (apply by September 20). Committee meets for up to 90 minutes twice a month.


Finance Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The finance committee meets two Thursdays per month (10:00am-11:30am) to provide direction to the vice-president of internal development. This includes the financial policy of the CSU, preparation of the annual operating budget, and overseeing the CSU’s funds, investments, and financial assets.
POSITION: student-at-large (2)
COMPENSATION: $25 per meeting
COMMITMENT: Committee appointment takes place September 23 (apply by September 20). Committee meets for up to 90 minutes twice a month.


Policy Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The policy committee meets two Mondays per month (9:000am-11:00am) to recommend and evaluate operations in the CSU and provide direction to the vice-president of internal development. The committee oversees matters such as capital expenditures and general office procedures of the CSU. The committee also has the responsibility to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Society Act of British Columbia and to implement any policies involving general operations of the CSU.
POSITION: student-at-large (1)
COMPENSATION: $25 per meeting
COMMITMENT: Committee appointment takes place September 23 (apply by September 20). Committee meets for up to two hours minutes twice a month.


Services Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The services committee is responsible for providing direction to the vice-president of university relations and services on programs and services the CSU provides for its membership. The committee monitors service costs, promotional plans, and related policies. It also investigates possible new services that would be beneficial to the membership. The committee works year-round to create and promote many services.

Student Life Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The Student Life Committee is responsible for providing direction to the vice-president of student life with regards to coordinating CSU events, promoting clubs, supporting social events, liaising with student groups on campus, and communications with the members to encourage engagement with the regional campuses and faculty representatives.
POSITION: student-at-large (4)
COMPENSATION: $25 per meeting
COMMITMENT: Committee appointment takes place September 23 (apply by September 20). Committee meets for up to 90 minutes twice a month.


University Relations Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The university relations committee provides direction to the CSU’s vice-president of university relations and services in all areas related to university relations with the goal of developing and strengthening our relationship with Capilano University administration. The committee provides recommendations regarding the appointment of student representatives to any decision-making bodies of Capilano University for which student representation is provided; it may discuss issues relative to other groups internal to the university; and it provides direction to faculty representatives, student representatives to the university senate, and the university’s board of governors.

UNIVERSITY ADVISORY COMMITTEES

Art Exhibitions Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The art exhibitions committee provides a forum whereby applications for the exhibition of art can be discussed and decisions made on if a piece of art can be displayed, ownership of the art and under what circumstances art can be displayed.
POSITION: student-at-large (2)
COMPENSATION: None
COMMITMENT: The committee meets upon application of art to be exhibited.


Physical Environment Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The physical environment committee provides a forum whereby internal university constituent groups discuss and make recommendations on plans relating to new university facilities, building and site changes and the campus master plan.
POSITION: student-at-large (2)
COMPENSATION: None
COMMITMENT: The committee meets every second Thursday of the month at 11:40am.


Transportation Committee

COMMITTEE SUMMARY: The transportation committee provides advice and recommendations on all matters related to public transportation to and from Capilano University; cycling to and from Capilano University; car pooling; parking; and the promotion of the “Go Green” environmental initiatives sponsored by local and provincial governments, and Metro Vancouver.
POSITION: student-at-large (2)
COMPENSATION: None
COMMITMENT: The committee meets the third Thursday of the month at noon.
