2023–2024 Budget Consultation

Each year, the Capilano Students’ Union board of directors (consisting exclusively of student leaders elected by and from the Capilano University student body) approves the budget for the CSU’s revenues and expenses for the fiscal year of June 1 to May 31. The vast majority of the CSU’s revenues come from student fees, and so students’ input is a critical part of the CSU’s process for each year’s decisions on how to prioritize spending. We provide multiple ways for students to engage with us on the budget so that you can choose a way that is most accessible to you.

About our 2023–2024 revenues

The Capilano Students’ Union operates with a budget of about $4.5 million per year, nearly all of which comes from student society fees paid by Capilano University students each academic term. For more information about each of these fees, you can visit our student fees page. Here’s a snapshot of each source of revenue that we’re expecting to make up the 2023–2024 budget.

  • We are expecting to collect about $4,185,252 in student fees in the 2023–2024 fiscal year

  • This is an increase over the previous fiscal year as more students resume studying in person on the main campus

  • We’re expecting to earn around $191,251 in revenue from the CSU’s investments — mostly to the student union building fund

  • Our target is to raise over $100,000 in non-fee revenue (such as user and rental fees, grant revenues, and sponsorships)
